President-elect Barack Obama's Weekly Address

By Beau Friedlander
Watch President-elect Obama's weekly address in which he promises 2.5 million new jobs by 2011, reassures the country that he's serious about change, sounds a heck of a lot like a latter day FDR, and, along the way, manages to explain somewhat the nascent centrist gestalt:

Did "wall Street" see this?

Honestly...President elect, Barack Obama, seems to understand the solutions. WHY doesn't the current administration see this? Why is Bush #2 not trying to resurrect his legacy? Instead of fixing things, he has chosen to trash things on his way out.

President Obama...I stand with you in cleaning up the horrific mess that the Bush administrating has left you with. This didn't happen over night...it has been 25+ years in the making. It will take longer than 4 years to fix it.More than likely, longer than 8.

Michelle 2016?

You're correct rg....

...it's going to take a while and it's going to get worse before it get's better.

I'm going to be standing behind our guy too....and I don't expect miracles. It amazes me how some of the contributers (who's this heather person?) are already bailing on the guy before he's even sworn in.

He's inheriting the biggest shitpot since FDR took over from the Hoovernator and peopole are already bailing because he isn't "progressive" enough? Appointing too many Clinton folks?

He sets the agenda/policy....he isn't going to be another Bush or Clinton for that matter.

First order of business is the economy and for all the folks going on about how he's going to bail out the big 3.....I don't think he has any choice with the situation he's facing. In another economic reality maybe he can afford them going under...not now. He can't toss (place how many million jobs here) down the toilet. He just can't....it's the hand he's been dealt and I trust him to play it better than the guy he's taking over for.....

He didn't make this mess but he'll clean it up...if possible.

Road

What solutions did Pres Obama mention? More promises.
Per your own admission the current situation has been growing even during Clinton's administration yet Pres Obama is loading his administration with Clintonistas.

"....Per your own admission the current situation has been growing even during Clinton's administration....."

WTF are you talking about, sock-puppet??? It's been the republicans who have been cramming de-regulation of the various financial and energy institutions down our throats. THAT'S the root cause of our problems, but I sense that you somehow want to blame this mess on Bill Clinton.

And its President ELECT Obama...he's not the president yet. But I'd call the PLAN to create 2.5 million jobs fixing our crumbling infrastructure and working towards energy independence/"green' technology a pretty good running start! The fastest way to get this economy back on it's feet is to put money into the pockets of those who will spend it. We see what happens when we give the 'breaks' to those who horde money....

As to his "loading his administration with Clintonistas", He's shopping for experience and expertise, you didn't expect him be looking at the failure of a Bush administration for talent, did you?

There has been

considerable angst about Obama's cabinet choices not reflecting the change he promised. Okay so you're not part of that crowd. Sorry.
For the sake of brevity I drop the "elect."
I looked up the Bureau of Labor Statistics figures. At the end of 2007 there were 146,291,000 people employed in the US. Two years earlier at the end of 2005 there were 142,652,000. That's a gain of 3,239,000 in two years and what magic did Bush do? Diddly. The economy would grow more than Obama is promising if the government would leave it alone.
One thing you might do for the crumbling infrastructure is urge him to spend any money on the crumbling and not new politically "sexier" stuff. Didn't they spend something like $200 billion a couple of years ago that ended up on pork?
Yes you're right, I remember seeing something somewhere about Y=C+G+I+NE

I'm not sure what Y=C+G+| +NE is....

As to your job numbers, sorry, they might have been accurate a year ago, but you MUST know that:

1) The jobs have largely come from the 'service sector', which are lower paying than those that were lost in the 2003/04 recession.

2) Since the end of 2007, tens of thousands of jobs have been since lost, with millions more in serious jeopardy.

I remember reading in the paper (not long ago) that there are many thousands of infrastructure projects throughout the country that are all ready to go, just waiting for some money to become available.

It would be a start, no?

The Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999.

That was Clinton's baby. BushCo then went friggin' crazy with it.
So the Corporate B Team shares some of the blame.
