Joe Six-Pack, Wink Wink, Curtains

By Tim Einenkel

“Governor Sarah Palin did well during the vice presidential debate,” has been the consensus among journalists, politicians and political analysts. The main reason for all this praise? Palin did not do a repeat performance of her interview with Katie Couric.

Palin was able to survive one hour and thirty minutes of repeating talking points and reciting a script. She treated the debate like just another campaign stop--she didn't bother to answer questions and was generally Stepford Wife-ish. You may remember her saying, “I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear.” Well, she didn't.

Below is transcript of the Governor’s answers (repeated answers have strikethroughs).

ANSWER NUMBER 1

PALIN: Thank you, Gwen. And I thank the commission, also. I appreciate this privilege of being able to be here and speak with Americans.

You know, I think a good barometer here, as we try to figure out has this been a good time or a bad time in America's economy, is go to a kid's soccer game on Saturday, and turn to any parent there on the sideline and ask them, "How are you feeling about the economy?"

And I'll bet you, you're going to hear some fear in that parent's voice, fear regarding the few investments that some of us have in the stock market. Did we just take a major hit with those investments?

Fear about, how are we going to afford to send our kids to college? A fear, as small-business owners, perhaps, how we're going to borrow any money to increase inventory or hire more people.

The barometer there, I think, is going to be resounding that our economy is hurting and the federal government has not provided the sound oversight that we need and that we deserve, and we need reform to that end.

Now, John McCain thankfully has been one representing reform. Two years ago, remember, it was John McCain who pushed so hard with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform measures. He sounded that warning bell.

People in the Senate with him, his colleagues, didn't want to listen to him and wouldn't go towards that reform that was needed then. I think that the alarm has been heard, though, and there will be that greater oversight, again thanks to John McCain's bipartisan efforts that he was so instrumental in bringing folks together over this past week, even suspending his own campaign to make sure he was putting excessive politics aside and putting the country first.

PALIN: John McCain, in referring to the fundamental of our economy being strong, he was talking to and he was talking about the American workforce. And the American workforce is the greatest in this world, with the ingenuity and the work ethic that is just entrenched in our workforce.

That's a positive. That's encouragement. And that's what John McCain meant.

Now, what I've done as a governor and as a mayor is (inaudible) I've had that track record of reform. And I've joined this team that is a team of mavericks with John McCain, also, with his track record of reform, where we're known for putting partisan politics aside to just get the job done.

Now, Barack Obama, of course, he's pretty much only voted along his party lines. In fact, 96 percent of his votes have been solely along party line, not having that proof for the American people to know that his commitment, too, is, you know, put the partisanship, put the special interests aside, and get down to getting business done for the people of America.

We're tired of the old politics as usual. And that's why, with all due respect, I do respect your years in the U.S. Senate, but I think Americans are craving something new and different and that new energy and that new commitment that's going to come with reform.

I think that's why we need to send the maverick from the Senate and put him in the White House, and I'm happy to join him there.

ANSWER NUMBER 2

PALIN: Yes, I would have. But here, again, there have -- there have been so many changes in the conditions of our economy in just even these past weeks that there has been more and more revelation made aware now to Americans about the corruption and the greed on Wall Street.

We need to look back, even two years ago, and we need to be appreciative of John McCain's call for reform with Fannie Mae, with Freddie Mac, with the mortgage-lenders, too, who were starting to really kind of rear that head of abuse.

And the colleagues in the Senate weren't going to go there with him. So we have John McCain to thank for at least warning people. And we also have John McCain to thank for bringing in a bipartisan effort people to the table so that we can start putting politics aside, even putting a campaign aside, and just do what's right to fix this economic problem that we are in.

It is a crisis. It's a toxic mess, really, on Main Street that's affecting Wall Street. And now we have to be ever vigilant and also making sure that credit markets don't seize up. That's where the Main Streeters like me, that's where we would really feel the effects.

ANSWER NUMBER 3

PALIN: No, I do not believe that it has been. But I'm so encouraged to know that we both love Israel, and I think that is a good thing to get to agree on, Sen. Biden. I respect your position on that.

No, in fact, when we talk about the Bush administration, there's a time, too, when Americans are going to say, "Enough is enough with your ticket," on constantly looking backwards, and pointing fingers, and doing the blame game.

There have been huge blunders in the war. There have been huge blunders throughout this administration, as there are with every administration.

But for a ticket that wants to talk about change and looking into the future, there's just too much finger-pointing backwards to ever make us believe that that's where you're going.

Positive change is coming, though. Reform of government is coming. We'll learn from the past mistakes in this administration and other administrations.

And we're going to forge ahead with putting government back on the side of the people and making sure that our country comes first, putting obsessive partisanship aside.

That's what John McCain has been known for in all these years. He has been the maverick. He has ruffled feathers.

But I know, Sen. Biden, you have respected for them that, and I respect you for acknowledging that. But change is coming.

PALIN: People aren't looking for more of the same. They are looking for change. And John McCain has been the consummate maverick in the Senate over all these years.

He's taken shots left and right from the other party and from within his own party, because he's had to take on his own party when the time was right, when he recognized it was time to put partisanship aside and just do what was right for the American people.

That's what I've done as governor, also, take on my own party, when I had to, and work with both sides of the aisle, in my cabinet, appointing those who would serve regardless of party, Democrats, independents, Republicans, whatever it took to get the job done.

Also, John McCain's maverick position that he's in, that's really prompt up to and indicated by the supporters that he has. Look at Lieberman, and Giuliani, and Romney, and Lingle, and all of us who come from such a diverse background of -- of policy and of partisanship, all coming together at this time, recognizing he is the man that we need to leave -- lead in these next four years, because these are tumultuous times.

We have got to win the wars. We have got to get our economy back on track. We have got to not allow the greed and corruption on Wall Street anymore.

And we have not got to allow the partisanship that has really been entrenched in Washington, D.C., no matter who's been in charge. When the Republicans were in charge, I didn't see a lot of progress there, either. When the Democrats, either, though, this last go- around for the last two years.

Change is coming. And John McCain is the leader of that reform.

ANSWER NUMBER 5

PALIN: There have been times where, as mayor and governor, we have passed budgets that I did not veto and that I think could be considered as something that I quasi-caved in, if you will, but knowing that it was the right thing to do in order to progress the agenda for that year and to work with the legislative body, that body that actually holds the purse strings.

So there were times when I wanted to zero-base budget, and to cut taxes even more, and I didn't have enough support in order to accomplish that.

But on the major principle things, no, there hasn't been something that I've had to compromise on, because we've always seemed to find a way to work together. Up there in Alaska, what we have done is, with bipartisan efforts, is work together and, again, not caring who gets the credit for what, as we accomplish things up there.

And that's been just a part of the operation that I wanted to participate in. And that's what we're going to do in Washington, D.C., also, bring in both sides together. John McCain is known for doing that, also, in order to get the work done for the American people.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME-SARAH THE MOOSE PALIN IS A JOKER

Not only has Post Tramatic Stress Disorder McShame lost his marbles.

He has encouraged her to loose hers.

Did Mcshame and Klan not prep her on the role under the United States of America's Constitution.

I don't think so........Fresh mouth wants to do the excessive power thing in the White House.

She's a joker...Contol the Senate and the legislative Branch.

Here we go again, another Dickey boy. Excessive power.

That's why we are all in this BIG BALL OF CONFUSION NOW.........Excessive power Sarah the moose.

Please send her back to Alaska. If they don't want her then we can send the trick to Russia since is about 5 feet outside her backyard.

BYE, BYE MOOSE PLAYLAND, because you took the joke out of joker.

uck!

Boy, it sure sounded smooth

on TV while staring at her Miss Wasilla features altered only by her frameless specs. When I read it I realize that her debate performance was no different than the Couric interview--it was just as unintelligible. This woman majored in journalism in college--a trade that is supposed to specialize in delivering clear and concise facts. Instead, I think I'm reading a transcript of an Ozzie Osbourne interview or something when I read the transcript above. but then she did not drool on herself or say, "Ya knoooow" so I guess it was a big victroy for the forces of medioctity in the Repugnican Party.

I watched on CNN, and it was amusing to note that every time Caribou Barbie referred to "Tawd" or "Hockey Mawms" the "feelings" monitor dipped toward the negative--for undecided women voters. The demographic they are trying to reach is alienated by either her nasal intonation, or their offense that the Repugs could think that American women would be so stupid as to vote for this miserable excuse for a "Maverick" just because she has a vagina, like them.

What is wrong with America

Palin IS Bush. They both have that uneducated, stupid way. Winking and smirking. They both disrespect the country without even knowing it. They act like the double-wide dwellers are in on the joke, when, to Bush/Palin, they ARE the joke.

It's a shame.

Just cliche, "We'll fight fight fight for ya", one after another. And all the "betcha" and "gotcha". Our allies must be cringing. If the pseudo intellectuals on the Republican side believe that Palin is up to the job, then I feel sorry for them but more sorry for the country.

What is wrong with the

What is wrong with the doublewide dwellers? Much better than the non-achieving welfare housing brood mares.

Most of whom live in Appalachia....you know, red states?

By the way, do you happen to have the stats on how many non-acheiving welfare housing brood mares there actually are? Probably not, as they are about as common as Bigfoot.

Truth is whatever you can get other people to believe - Tom Smothers

How many?

What is wrong?

In this day and age of global economy and technology, we need leaders who are both educated and smart. Imaginary "common sense" isn't enough. We need vision and imagination. We need people who can see the "big picture" and not crayon draw by numbers.

Somehow, the double-widers think that they can send Barbeque Barbie to "clean up Washington". Somehow they believe that "smarts" and "education" are somehow not "real".

What did Bush say? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me again, fool, uh, you can't get fooled again". We went through "stupid with imaginary common sense" already. Now that the entire country is at stake, you would think that they wouldn't want to go through it again.

We can't elect leaders that believe that "Noah's Ark" was a historical event. That "witchcraft" is real. We went through it with Bush. How many times will it take to learn?

"clean up Washington".

As John McSame is fond of saying, the Vice President has only two duties: (1) Preside over the Senate without voting unless there is a tie, and (2) inquire daily on the health of the President. The VP has no constitutional mandate to "clean up Washington." For that matter neither does the President, except in time of insurrection.

You need to understand Dean: the moneyed backers of the Repugnican Party do not want intellectuals in the White House. They want trained chimpanzees, co-stars of trained chimpanzees, and Alaskan yokels who haven't a clue what the significance of anything is. that way, when Exxon and Shell and Chevron and Conoco say to the VeePee, "We want you to invade an oil-producing country where the resources are nationalized, and give us the rights to their oil," the chump will go along with the "suggestion" and will do so with gusto and ownership--at least until things start to go bad, when they will blame everything on their "incompetent subordinates" (to whom they issue medals of freedom).

Why do True Repugnicans fear Obama? They are afraid that given the presidential bully pulpit, a smart Democrat would shout to the hilltops that the Repugnican agenda has no clothes.

Party of Extremes

I understand. The Republican party has become a party of extremes. First, you have the extreme religious who believe in stories such as "Noah's Ark" and "supernatural creation". Then you have the extreme business people who want to drain the golden goose at any cost and who don't realize that they could make a lot more off a healthy economy.

Two groups of people who have lost their morals and values.

One group - anything for a buck

The other group - sheep who will do anything because God is on their side.

I Cannot Believe....

Anyone watching thinks she won that debate. Maverick, Maverick, Maverick, we'll fight for ya with not a single specific plan, program, ANYTHING.

Even the focus groups think she won.

Welcome to Hell, bring your handbasket.....

I watched the debate on CNN because I like the real time

tracking of responses by the focus groups they assemble. Last night was a group about 30 undecided voters in Ohio, evenly split by gender, and with party affiliations of repub, dem, and independent. I noted several things:

1. Every time Palin used the word "maverick", the lines for both men and women dropped

2. No matter which candidate mentioned it, the lines went way up when Wall Street corruption was mentioned.

3. Biden's lines went way up with both groups whenever he mentioned getting out of Iraq.

4. Palin's lines went down when she tried to insist she was Jane Six Pack.

5. Biden's lines went almost to the roof when he mentioned that we spend as much in 3 weeks in Iraq as we have spent in our entire time in Afghanistan.

Palin proved that as long as she was allowed to stick to a heavily-prepared script, she was competent. When put on the spot with a question or response that didn't fit her programming, she had that blank look, and took a while to get out a response, which was often rambling and off-point. Biden did a great job of hitting her on what she thought were great points. When she would bring up that Obama had voted for some piece of legislation that she thought was bad, Biden was able to counter that McCain had voted exactly the same way. Didn't the McCain campaign even bother to check such stuff out before they crammed it into her head? He also did a fine job of educating her on what the job of the vice president entails, as she still apparently believes in the Cheney imperial vice presidency model. Way to go by shooting her down with that damned piece of paper, the Constitution!

Truth is whatever you can get other people to believe - Tom Smothers

focus groups do not think she won

overwhelmingly, people say she was more charming, and they feel better about her ability to be president (55% now think she could handle the job, up from 35%) but Biden won in every major poll by a landslide.

We got FREE SHOTS at McCain all night long, because she couldn't go off script to defend him, and her inability to answer a question directly was pretty obvious.

Anyone who doesn't like Cheney will never vote for their ticket after hearing she wants to "expand vice presidential powers". What an airhead thing to say, considering the fact that Cheney is almost unanimously reviled in the American public. Biden picked right up on that... awesome.

It was funny how she somehow thought acknowledging that she wasn't asking the questions asked by Ifill meant it was going to be acceptable for her to just talk about what SHE wanted to talk about rather than answer the question at hand. Even more remarkable and sad was the question she chose to avoid, about what her ticket's plans were to keep people in their homes. What a buffoon - this is by far the #1 major issue in American households today. She went off-road to talk about her energy experience... great, who gives a fuck that you took on "big oil", whatever that means. For someone who's supposed to be a hockey mom that understands average Joe sixpack (what a demeaning way to describe the average american), she sure picked the wrong topic to avoid.

I don't think she's any smarter than I did before the debate, but at least i have now seen her string more than a few words together to form an understandable if not complete English sentence.

She's dumber than a stump. Go wink and blow kisses at someone else.

Ifill's response

to Caribou Barbie's assertion that she would not answer her questions should have been to ask the exact same question again. But of course, thanks to ther Rove Brigade's campaign against Gwen Ifill, the usually thorough jorunalist was left to allow the airhead to say whatever she wanted in order to avoid looking "biased".

Palin the Muppett

What a well-trained muppett! That is all I saw from her last night. I'm sorry but I will always still prefer Miss Piggy to Palin the Muppett. At least, Miss Piggy is a pig with lipstick who will always be more intelligent and more entertaining.

Sarah Palin failed to answer

Sarah Palin failed to answer a single question.

Sarah Palin was incoherent and displayed an amazing lack of knowledge.

Sarah Palin spoke as if she were an illiterate boob.

So according to the Pundits she exceeded expectations and showed she could be V.P. I guess the pundits don't have any more respect for the American people than John McShame.

Now for something truly frightening....

Actuarial tables say that there is a 20% chance that McCain would die during his first term in office, and a 25% chance he would die before the end of a second term. These are statistics used by the insurance industry, so you know they must be pretty decent, as this is how they earn their bread and butter. So, anyone care to take a 20% chance that Caribou Barbie and the gang could end up running this country? Are you ready to have her facing off with Putin, Kim Jong Il, Chavez, Ahmedinajad, Hu Jintao? This goes beyond just having us continue to be the laughingstock of the world. It gets down to just plain danger...not that McCain is much better. The rest of the world wonders why we keep electing dangerous dunces. We simply can't afford to do this any more, not with the economic and military questions that confront us today. It's time to stop voting for people we'd like to have a beer with, or go to PTA meetings with. We need leaders that are actual visionaries, people who have actual college degrees from prestigous universities, people who actually read books and newspapers about economics and world events and history.

Back in the early days of the Cold War, we always were put in fear of a "missile gap", the idea that the Russians had more nuclear-tipped missiles than we did. Well, today, we face a "leadership gap", as the world elects intelligent, capable leaders, and we get people like Bush and McCain and Palin. A country can't last long with that kind of "leadership".

Truth is whatever you can get other people to believe - Tom Smothers

Uff...

Your statements about the chance of Palin getting into the Oval office are EXACTLY why I'm crash-coding all my files, and fitting my computer with an attractive case made of Themite.

Palin's enough of a moonbat to make me start thinking about escape routes.

give me lever, and a place to stand...

Watching Palin debate makes me glad I made this parody, but...

I got this response from a writer friend I respect very much. Did I go too far?

"...burning books and sending the blacks back to the cotton fields??? Don't this kind of slanderous and awful accusations make you palinesque too?? I have learned, in my years under totalitarism, to trust no Party, none. I'm surpsised to see how young Americans put their faith in only ONE Party!! I am very leery of Party lines and Party members!! And, mind you, I don't like Sarah Palin and I'm voting for Obama!"

Alaskans react to debate

Some of the people who know Palin best react with boos and laughter to her phony BS.

http://shannynmoore.wordpress.com/2008/10/03/alaskans-react-to-the-debat...

Did she have vaseline on her

Did she have vaseline on her teeth so she could keep smiling and smiling, no matter what, without her lips sticking to her teeth (old beauty contest trick)?

She had something on her teeth...

But maybe it wasn't Vaseline. Was Crash backstage?

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.

THAT

was an image i didn't need.

give me lever, and a place to stand...

Remember McSame

sizing up her backside and boobs, not once, but several times, in the fisrt two days of her flirtation with America?

yeah, that was a scary one

Perhaps it's a tad strange, but I like women with BRAINS.

Color me kinky that way.

give me lever, and a place to stand...

i thought..

it was good palin looked directly into the camera. that was smart. but she was weak on substance. perhaps that why two snap polls indicated that biden was the clear victor.

Team of Mavericks

Sarah Palin repeated several times during the vp debate that she and Mccain are a 'team of mavericks'.... never know that mavericks form team! She is as qualified to be vp as anyone who stays at Holiday Inn Express!
