McCain: Beneath Contempt

A lot of verbiage has been spilled over McCain's "that one" comment. Less time has been devoted to what happened after the debate. Face time for the candidates was skewed. At first I was shocked, could there be such severe Obama bias on the part of MSNBC? It seemed like the camera never left the Illinois senator. The reason only materialized a bit later as Air America's Rachel Maddow explained the senator from Arizona had left in fairly short order with wife Cindy in tow.
Senator McCain's temper is both fabled and well documented. It is hard to imagine after all these years that he can calmly accept defeat. It is easy to imagine based on what we know of his impetuous, self-seeking nature that a poor performance in the debate would make him want to lash out or take cover, and it seems he chose the latter course of action. With age comes wisdom. (I'm sure that Scotch on the rocks he had right afterwards hit the spot.)
It was big news last night on the blogs when McCain made eye contact with Obama. That in itself is very telling. The fact is simple: John McCain has projected a sense that he finds Obama somehow beneath contempt, and that it's somehow demeaning to compete with him. Many think there is a racial component at work here, and I don't doubt it (though I also don't see it per se). That said, first and foremost we're dealing with a giant ego being thwarted.
Regarding the race question, I can't speak for Senator McCain, but his behavior does seem to suggest something more than mere competion. Again it doesn't have to be race. Regardless, there is an icy demeanor that is misplaced. Senator Obama is a colleague. He is an accomplished man. You'd never know it. McCain barely countenances him at all, and when he does it is clear that the senator from Illinois only figures as an obstacle, and an affront to McCain's dream job.
Media critics and pundits on the left today have suggested that the "that one" comment was best deemed the quip of an old codger referring to one in a gaggle of grandchildren, a slightly condescending, yet loving, gesture. After all, the bill was "loaded with goodies." (Egad.) It is a fine reading, and a doltish move. What on Earth was the seventy-two-year-old senator thinking? He is already fighting an age stigma. Way to drive that home, McCombover.
Beyond bad strategy, there is something ugly about the comment as well. It objectifies. Obama ceased to be a Senator, a colleague, a man. He was a thing. And for this reason, the race issue emerged as a sliver, a suggestion--what Daniel de Groot over at Open Left today called "dog whistle racism."
It's not anything overt, and I do not think McCain is a racist any more than any other American. Race is an issue in the United States, and as long as one distinguishes between the races, we've got a problem. But the fact is this: slaves were considered things, not people. That's why you're hearing the left scream racism. Unfortunately, we end up in the same place via the infantalizing version: "that one" as "youngun" is just a skip and a hop from "boy."
No matter how you choose to view it, McCain's "that one" comment and it's waywardness revealed both a man and a campaign in troubled water. And thank God for that.

By MadgardnerOctober 8, 2008 - 5:13pmMcCain Campaign Rhetoric Incites Violence
I sent the following e-mail letter to my friends and family this morning:
Dear Friends and Family,
You'd think that, with Obama ahead in all the major polls, I'd be happy right now. I'm not. I have a huge knot in the middle of my stomach because of the violence-inciting language that the McCain Campaign has been using since the Vice Presidential Debate last week.
All the political pundits accurately predicted that the McCain Campaign was going to go negative to try to take the focus away from the faltering economy – that they were going to step up their attacks on Obama's character. That kind of campaigning is anathema to me, even though I know it's a reality of politics.
It's one thing to try to make Obama out to be a liar or to paint him as inexperienced and not ready to be president. It's an entirely different thing to purposely try to link Obama to "domestic terrorists" - to have a local sheriff in Florida introduce Palin with a reference to Barack Hussein Obama – to hear an audience member at a Palin rally, when she asked "Who is Barack Obama?" yell out, "A terrorist!" - to hear a man at a McCain rally yell out, "Kill him!"
With our economy in trouble and millions of people losing their jobs and their homes, it's this kind of language that's going to send some desperate, angry, jobless people right over the edge. You want someone to blame? Blame the terrorist, Obama.
If some harm comes to Barack Obama, I'll lay it squarely at the feet of McCain, Palin and their handlers. And what will have been Obama's crime? That he's a youngish, idealistic, smart, socially conscious man who wants to serve his country? My god.
I respect and defend anyone's right to vote Republican in this or any other election. Thoughtful people can disagree on difficult, complicated issues and on a philosophy of how our taxes should be assessed and spent and our liberties best preserved. But I beg any of you who typically vote Republican not to support the McCain/Palin ticket. What they are saying right now is way beyond negative. It is, in my opinion, criminal and treasonous. And if those seem like strong words, please know that I don't use them lightly.
If you can't, in good conscience, vote for Obama and Biden, then I ask you to withhold your presidential vote, in protest against a Republican ticket that would resort to rhetoric that incites violence. I can't believe this is the direction you want the Republican Party to go.
Sadly and fearfully,
Kris

Hate to break it to you sport, but it is Obama that linked himself to a domestic terrorist, not McCain or Palin. It would be irresponsible to not point that out.
As far as your "inciting violence" charge, that is pure bullshit. You cannot illustrate a single time in the campaign where any member of McCain's team advocated or called for violence in any way, shape, or form. Simply pointing out Obama's questionable relationships is not a call to violence. Sure, there are some dumbasses out there that would like to harm Obama, just like there are some dumbasses out there that would like to harm McCain, but trying to pass the blame onto the McCain campaign is nothing more than petty political bullshit and anyone with a shred of honesty knows it.

From Wikipedia:
"Ayers participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters in 1970, the United States Capitol building in 1971, and The Pentagon in 1972, as he noted in his 2001 book, Fugitive Days. Because of a water leak caused by the Pentagon bombing, aerial bombardments during the Vietnam War had to be halted for several days. Ayers writes:
Although the bomb that rocked the Pentagon was itsy-bitsy - weighing close to two pounds - it caused 'tens of thousands of dollars' of damage. The operation cost under $500, and no one was killed or even hurt. [13]"
So Ayers is making it up himself? You are every bit as bad as the right wing nuts that believe every liberal is trying to do away with christmas.
Personally, I don't think the connection between Obama and Ayers is strong enough to pass judgement on Obama, but that's personal opinion. There is no doubt, however, that Ayers has committed acts of domestic terrorism, as evidenced by his own book.

Hey CJ, if you are so pissed about the Keating 5, do you have anything to say about John Glenn working for Obama? John Glenn was just as involved with the Keating 5 as McCain was, both were cleared of any wrong doing. But that shouldn't matter to you, if just being involved with the Keating 5 is enough to convict, then why does Obama have Glenn working for him?
And you want to talk about "black friends"? I don't know about McCain, but I don't pick my friends based on the color of their skin, but yes a few of my military buddies happen to be black. Now here's a question for you, how many people that make less than a hundred grand a year do you think have been invited into Obama's house in the past few years? during that last "debate" (better to call it, attack of the snorefest),McCain kept coming across like he'd done something wrong, and he was trying to get acceptance or forgiveness.

by not responding negatively to it when "terrorist" and "kill him" was shouted, they implied consent to such ideology. if they had reacted unfavorably to such talk, it would have been a move that was heralded by the press and rightfully so. but once again the Old Man and the Bee(hive) missed an opportunity to appear magnanamous and instead its easy to make the inference that they support the idea that Obama is a "terrorist" and they would condone "killing him".
A smart politician would have done such things when the opportunity warranted. But these two are dumber than rocks... they wouldn't know an opening if god himself parted the red sea for them.

Actually, on the news last night, they said the woman that owns the foundation that brought Ayers and Obama together is a contributor and a close friend of John McCains. I forgot her name, but it's the same as the name of the Foundation.
Much more scary is Palins husband belonging to a radical seperatist group that advocates ripping the star of Alaska off the US flag and praying for the destruction of America.
And Palin's preacher who rallied a town together to chase an old lady out of her house for, get this, being a "witch", you know, like Samantha or Endora or dear Aunt Clara. Now that is most certainly domestic terrorism.
I don't understand how you can tie Obama to a man who did these things when Obama was 8 years old. But ignore Palin's very recent history and John McCain's friends.

By nobush3peatOctober 8, 2008 - 9:47pmLooks like ACORN is at it again!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081008/ap_on_el_ge/voter_fraud
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Officials in Missouri, a hard-fought jewel in the presidential race, are sifting through possibly hundreds of questionable or duplicate voter-registration forms submitted by an advocacy group that has been accused of election fraud in other states.
And this time, THEY HAD HELP.
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/election/s_584284.ht...
U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat's campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports.
An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. -- a subsidiary of ACORN -- worked in "get-out-the-vote" projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary.
Well, well well, it looks like Obama is paying ACORN to turn in fraudulent voter registrations in key battleground states.
Now a little more digging, and it just gets scary. It seems that the man that shared enough of Obama's vision for what public schools should be to let him distribute his foundation's 50 million dollars in Chicago public schools, William Ayers, has visited a foreign leader that also has a common vision for what public education should be. Hugo Chavez. It seems that William Ayers, the man that Obama worked with to "reform" Chicago's public schools, doesn't see public education as a means to teach things like reading, math, and science, oh no, no, no. He sees public schools as a way to indoctrinate political beliefs into school children as a way to bring about revolution.
Gee, I wonder why there is no mention of his work with Ayers' in the Annenberg Challenge or the Wood's Fund in either of his two books. The "community organizing" that was done during these years is his claim to leadership abilities, yet no mention of what he was actually doing..... What was Obama actually doing with the funds that Ayers gave him to distribute? What was Obama helping Ayers accomplish?

You linked to the site, I just called you on it, and if you keep linking to sick sites like that I will report you.
I withdraw NOTHING, and your idle threats do not intimidate me.

By hufflarry2000October 9, 2008 - 3:22amYou son of a whore
You have made a public accusation against me, which could result in the loss of my livelihood. In today's climate, I could even be arrested on suspicion of something that I have not done.
I challenge you. This is not an idle threat. I am telling you to be a man and back up your accusation. I am deadly serious, you phony veteran. I will have satisfaction. In a court of law or elsewhere.
Too cowardly to face me like men? Fine. There's always the law. I'm working on your identity. When that happens, my attorney will receive all particulars.

I made no accusation, I simply pointed out what you did. You linked to a website with some pretty disgusting content. If you don't want to be accused of it, don't do it.
So you are going to sue me!?! Hey dipshit, in order to win a defamation of character lawsuit, not only do you have to prove statements made were false (which they weren't), but you also have to prove actual damages were caused by those statements. You can't just sue somebody for calling you out on a post you made. Lol, I may just give you my name for a couple more laughs!
And just what do you mean by "or elsewhere"? Is that a threat? Are you aware that threatening people is a crime? Should I call the cops? Nah, I'm not a little bitch that can dish it out but can't take it like you! Quit being a whiny little bitch.

By snoopfroggyfroggOctober 9, 2008 - 12:39pmSue you?
Threatening a lawsuit is a crime in California. Like the crime that you committed. All I said was that when I discover your identity, the matter will be turned over to my attorney. Unless of course, you'd care to meet me face to face and settle this like a man. A big tough war hero like you should have no trouble at all getting a Space Available to Pendleton.
Oh, sorry. I forgot. You're no man. You're a little Article 115 (malingering/self inflicted) coward and bully. Have you stopped beating your wife?

Lol, you are just precious! What crime did I commit? I called you a sick fuck for linking to a disgusting site, where's the crime? You did link to the site, I simply called you out on it.
It amuses me that you have no problem calling my child a whore, but the second I dare call you out on something that you actually did, you want to settle it in "court or elsewhere"!
Lol, "real men" resort to attacking people's family members in an argument!

By snoopfroggyfroggOctober 9, 2008 - 12:52pmWhat a lying little son of a bitch
Well, asshole,. if that's the only way I can get you to man up, then "by any means necessary."
You're not a man. You're a bully and a coward. You have accused me of sexual deviance. If my employer were to see that, I could be barred from teaching in California for life. Thanks to your faggot ex-bodybuilder governor, a simple accusation is all it takes...no arrest, trial or conviction needed. You have defamed my character and committed libel. So yes, Mr. 115. I will see this settled.
What a pathetic little coward you are. You are so angry at your party losing the election, you hide behind that keyboard and say the vilest things, then call us names for giving you some back. Then you make a criminal attempt to ruin my life.
At least al-Qaeda has some fucking guts. I bet you ran screaming from the Iraqis too.

Again, you posted the picture, I simply pointed out the type of content that is on the site you linked to. If you don't want people saying that you linked to disgusting sites, then don't link to disgusting sites. It really is that simple.
And you would have an uphill battle in a libel suit. You have to prove ACTUAL damages, it takes more than just creating a hypothetical potential for damages based on true statements on your own actions. You have to prove that my statements directly resulted in those damages. You also have to prove that the statement in question was false and malicious. The statement I made was true, so there goes your case. Oh, and quit yer whining ya little bitch.

I understand exactly how google images works. I'm not sure of what keywords you had to punch in to get the sick fecal fetish website that you linked to here though. It doesn't matter how you got the link, all that matters is that you posted it here. It's not my fault that you are careless about your links. If you don't want to be called out on what you link to, then don't link to disgusting websites.

Look, Jeff. I understand what a little coward you are. You cut and ran from the Gulf after all. But do you have to advertise it? You spoke fighting words to me and refuse to face me. I have called you out. Now put your money where your mouth is.

For Christ's sake, Mr. Frank. You don't have to advertise to the whole blog, what a little coward you are. I bet you knew there was some porn on those sites because you have them bookmarked. I knew nothing of the kind. I am not responsible for what a blog carries. But then, you lying whore's son, you already know that.
Don't worry, BCD Boy. You have committed libel, slander, and defamation of character and I will have satisfaction. I do not forget.

By wrenchboyOctober 9, 2008 - 7:01pmSimply amazing.
You call people's children and mothers whores. You post pictures from sites that have depictions of disgusting and violent sexual acts. You threaten and bully people. This is all perfectly fine here. I call you out on it, and I am banned. Apparently the ONLY rule here is that ANYTHING goes as long as you're a lib.
That being said, I'm done arguing this topic but I retract NOTHING. Pointing out something that you actually did is not libel, it is not slander, and it sure as fuck isn't defamation and you know it. All I ever said was that there is some sick shit on the site that you linked a picture from, which is a completely true statement. You might as well try to sue me for saying the sky is blue. If you want to track me down and beat me up or try to sue me for simply pointing out something you did, THEN DO IT, quit talking about it and fucking do it. Your idle threats and intimidation tactics do not work on me, I don't fear punk ass bullies like you. If you are so hell bent on meeting me, c'mon out, some of your buddies know where I live, they can give you my address. You might as well simmer down now son, we both know your not gonna do a damn thing. And lastly, I really hope you aren't torturing this poor Jeff Frank guy, that would actually be committing a crime, unlike the empty accusations you have launched against me.

By LiberalIconoclastOctober 9, 2008 - 1:27pmI am happy as hell
My side is winning and you are going to lose your workfare job and your socialist lifestyle when Obama cuts the budget. I could not be happier.
Why did I receive an absentee ballot application from the McCain campaign here in OH with the wrong return address on it? Why when I called the BOE that they had no record of sending it to me? Fucking cheating anti American scum. I voted for Obama last Tuesday, in person, and on a paper ballot. You people failed to cage my vote.

was sending out registration forms labeled from Obama to voters that were already registered. My guess is if you look at the to/too/two registration forms with the same social security number, you will find one originated from the Republicans.
Nothing like waiting for your fraud to go through and point it out as soon as it does, pretending the voter is at fault. This is not genius, this is merely cheating and should be a crime if it isn't already.
