Today on Doing Time- Friday! August 29th

By Victoria Hippel

Obama gave the speech he needed to give last night! Despite the “he must do this without doing that” all through yesterday, Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama gave a hard hitting speech highlighting McCain’s faults and assuring that America is better then the last eight years. Everyone has a take- Ron will give you his.

McCain, worrying the Obama camp, came out yesterday with and ad that turned out to be congratulating Obama on his day and saying, “Senator, job well done”. Sneaky.

Meanwhile, McCain announces his own VP choice today. Who were you thinking? Lieberman? Pawlenty? WRONG. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin? Huh? Ron will look at her record, her experience and her stances as we all try to get to know the Governor who’s been in office for less then two years.

Today marks the 3rd Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and Ron will talk to Loyola Professor John Biguenet about the status of New Orleans and the surrounding area three years later. Memoriam events were cut short in the region though, as they prepare for a mass exodus as Tropical Storm Gustav approaches, after wreaking havoc in the Caribbean, with 70 deaths reported. The RNC is even considering pushing back the start of their Convention to avoid the event coinciding with the storm.

And, while the DNC dominated the news this week, the world was still turning and shocking as it may be, news was still happening around the globe. Ron will catch you up on the latest happenings in Russia, Iraq, and Afghanistan as well as news from the good ole US of A.

This, plus our Friday movie review with Dan Kimmel of Variety, and a look back at the summers best and worst (a.k.a. what not to rent). Ron will take your calls and react to your reactions on the Democratic Convention and McCain’s surprising VP choice.

And a Happy Labor Day weekend to all!

bumper sticker idea for the GOP!!!

Hey Ron,

How do you like, "McCain & un-Abel"? You can appreciate the attribution to Genesis or the pun. :)

Persevere,

Q

I'll protect your right to be right if you defend my right to be wrong.

Pro-life NOT

I encourage all progressives talking about anti-choice candidates to say just that – ANTI-CHOICE.
Make the distinction between ANTI–Choice & "pro-life".

You cannot be PRO–LIFE and be avid pro-war and avid pro-capital punishment as so many right wingers and so called cristian conservatives so adamantly are.

I am trying to live my life as a true Christian (I won't be the final judge on my success) and I am pro-choice and pro–life. I truly hate the misuse of the word pro–life when referring to these zealots.

NO way– No how – No McCain

no surprise...

I figured Palin would be the nominee, once the McCain campaign & GOP pundits kept focusing on Hillary voters.
Aside from the hypcrisy, and lack of judgment of the Palin pick, this smells like the GOP thinks McCain is toast, and wants to get Palin national name recognition, for a run in 2012, or more possibly 2016.

Thanks RayofMaine& Thanks Ron

I listen via podcast so I am generally a day behind the shows. I logged on to post my comment when I found Ray's spot-on comment about accuracy in our lexicon for political discourse. In addition to anti-choice, the use of 'corporate media' rather than the inaccurate and disingenuous 'mainstream media' has long been a pet peeve of mine. Over and over and over again we find that the polls show the American electorate to be far left of the purported 'center' positions espoused by the multinational shills of the corporate bloviation. Further, the use of the misnomer 'mainstream' casts aspersions on the news reporting of the blogosphere, which is often more diligent, accurate, and timely than the big budget operations of ABC, the WaPo, et al.
