Today on DT...Bush to America: "Sorry about your country." Plus the myth of the Fairness Doctrine and Kuby v. Kuby.

By Dan Pashman

President Bush has begun his series of exit interviews, and he's
sorry. He's not sorry about anything HE has done, he's just sorry that
somehow, through no fault of his own, the entire country turned into a
steaming turd while he was president. Today on the show Ron will tell
you what President Bush has in common with many of the people Ron has
defended over the years as an attorney.

Plus we'll talk about the
Fairness Doctrine. Conservatives are convinced liberals want to bring
it back, but it'll never happen. Why not? Because it's unconstitutional
for one, and because it's unnecessary for another. Ron explains
why.

And New York Giant Plaxico Burress is in big trouble
for carrying a gun without the correct permit, and for shooting the gun
into himself by accident. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says Burress should
get 3 1/2 years in jail, but Ron says typically a normal person would
only get about 6 months in this situation. Which sentence do you think
is more fair? We'll play Kuby v. Kuby, when Ron argues both sides and
asks you to play judge and jury. Call us at 866-303-2270.

Recession

Ron, if you're going to do a show like this, PLEASE learn some basics. Standard economic practice is to wait a substantial amount of time, USUALLY ABOUT A YEAR, before pronouncing a recession. They simply can't call it as soon as the first person becomes unemployed. It's always been done this way. They can only recognize it in retrospect. If you are prescient, please, by all means, let us know.

Fairness

Another interesting point is the consolidation that has been taking place in the news and communication industry, which is potentially an even greater threat to free speech than the fairness doctrine.

Players like Murdoch, GE, Disney, etc. own all the media outlets and they can influence what points of view get air time, how much, and which do not see the light of day.

I seem to recall that under Bush and FCC Chairman Powell, big companies were allowed to gobble up media outlets in multiple markets. Yet the politicians are not talking about this one. Or maybe, the media outlets will suppress this issue and we will never hear about it.

plaxico

Plaxico is not a "normal" person. He won the Super Bowl. He makes, or rather made, millions. Sadly, like Michael Vick, he's paid well to be an ultimate role-model. For the bucks it's worth being straight during one's professional career - whether one's a lawyer or wide receiver. Ignorance is no excuse.

Mayor-for-life Bloomberg has a right to voice his own opinions and disgust - even if he probably should not. Separation-of-powers is supposed to assure that our fine & honorable members of the bench are not unduly influenced...right?

When we were kids you could get thrown off the team for drinking or even making love (let alone shooting oneself) before the Big Game on Sunday. When did that ethos change?
