Today on DT: eHarmony goes gay, hyperparenting, and Amanda Fortini on the year of "The Bitch and the Ditz"
Well eHarmony might not like it, but they're going to have to bend
over and take it. After fighting for years, the dating website finally agreed to offer same-sex matches.
But should they have to? Today on the show we'll play Kuby v. Kuby,
when Ron puts on his attorney's hat and argues BOTH sides of an issue,
then lets listeners act as judge and jury. Sure it seems like the right
thing to do, but should a private company be told how to run their
business? If they want to run a dating site for heterosexual couples,
should they have that right? Listen to Ron take both sides, then call
us to issue your judgement.
Also on today's show we'll talk to Amanda Fortini, whose piece in the current issue
of New York Magazine is entitled, "The Bitch and the Ditz: How the Year
of the Woman reinforced the two most pernicious sexist stereotypes and
actually set women back."
Plus
we'll talk about issues facing parents, including the issue of their
own overparenting. Chill out mom and dad, or you might be accused of hyperparenting. And here's another reason to relax -- Socializing online might not be as bad for kids as you'd think. A new study argues that it actually helps kids develop social and computer skills simultaneously.
And
the Clintonization of Obamaland -- Is Obama selling out his mantra of
"change," or is he just going for the best and most experienced people
out there?
Tell us what you think, call the show at 866-303-2270.

So eHarmony had to be
So eHarmony had to be "forced" to offer its services to gays? Shit, they are probably going to find out they can make a fortune catering to the gay community. Why fight it? Just give the people what they want (all the people), and try to capitalize on it with handsome profits. It is not going to hurt anyone.
Same thing with gay marriage. Let gays marry if they want, why shouldn't they suffer with the rest of us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for Obama's penchant for ex-Clintonites, Jonathan Alter made a good point on NPR: if you are looking for people with high level federal government experience for your cabinet you can basically choose between people from GW Bush's cabinet or Clinton's cabinet. So it is not surprising that Obama is choosing the latter. Also, not all of these people supported Hillary and are not necessarly beholden to the Clinton people.
From what we are hearing about cabinet selections thus far, it sounds like Obama is going to govern from the center.

By Elliot LewisNovember 20, 2008 - 4:16pmPelosi -- Did you question the wall street bailout plan? No!
Wall street pays the bills for some Democrats--mostly DLC types.
Hillary, Emanuel, etc. all DLC -- not progressives.
So it appears that Obama intends to govern center/right.
He is filling up his administration with political hacks.
Emanuel might be the cause.
Have we been conned?

By Joe_RNovember 20, 2008 - 4:22pmStop!
Ron,
Love listening to you everyday, but please stop bitching about unconfirmed cabinet selections. What would you have him do, hire people who don’t have an ounce of knowledge about the inner-workings of Washington politics? You indicated there are other qualified persons for the various positions, name them – who would you select? It is easier sit from afar bitching about who you don’t like, but in the spirit of President-elect Obama – if you are not going to be apart of the solution, shut-up!

I disagree with Elliot. Clinton didn't go back to Carter to get his people.
12 years of Republican rule proceeded him.
I was hoping Obama might bring in new thinking. But he has not so far.
Same old, Same old.

If I remember correctly, the bases for unemployment was also changed under Reagan.

INDEED, per the EO44 transition team's selections; there is an absence of FRESH NEW & IMPROVED grey matter not only to replace the invertebrate DINO PLUTOCRATS currently on the hill that killed IMPEACHMENT for FIXED WMD INTEL TRIGGERING PREEMPTIVE WAR ON "CONTAINED" IRAQ and FLOUTING FISA ILLEGAL DOMESTIC SPYING and TORTURE, but excludes entirely HARD CORE TRUST BUSTER LEGAL EAGLES to displace the unitary executive Goodling THEOCRATIC sycophants festering within the INjustice Dept.

What really gets my goat is that they wont even pursue the ANTHRAX attack on congress that EVERYBODY knows could not have been achieved by the LONE GUNMAN suspected perpetrator Bruce Edwards Ivins (deceased).

WTF are they thinking? That we're going to FORGET what pushed the USA PATRIOT Act over the top via a MIDNIGHT VOTE before the majority had a chance to read the 1,000 page bill which gutted the Bill of Rights forever more?

By THX.1138 UltraV...November 20, 2008 - 6:13pmOne thing that bugs me about
One thing that bugs me about Daschle: Daschle signed on as a Senior Policy Advisor with the K Street law firm Alston & Bird. Health care interests, including CVS Caremark, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, Abbott Laboratories and HealthSouth, are among the firm's lobbying clients. The firm was paid $5.8 million between January and September 2008 to represent companies and associations before Congress and the executive branch, with 60 percent of that money coming from the health industry.Daschle was recruited by the former Republican Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole. Daschle has refused to discuss his salary, but Dole, performing a similar role at the firm, has said he makes in the region of $800,000 to $1 million per year.
Should a guy with these very recent lobbyist ties be HHS Dept. Head?
Also, his wife was FAA chief under Clinton and is also a lobbyist.
