The 527 Fairness Act of 2005 has a crappy name specifically to make you not realize that it guts, fillets, breads and fries McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform.  What do you think an individual who gives over a million dollars to a political party in every single election can expect for his or her investment/

Great Show!

Safe trip.

Have a good trip

Seattle has a bunch of stereotypes about it...makes me want to visit someday soon. Bad experiences in the 1990's corresponding electronically (in the oldspeak) to "hot chicks". All Conservative. Still confused about why or how, just that watch out!!! They drink coffee and major in P.R. and act all agreeable. Just don't try to explain how things work logically to them during an election cycle.. 2000, 2004 for me coincidentally.
Parades suck, but I like them. No one notices anything anyway or who's doing what...You'll kick ass, Rachel. Enjoy.

Wake up Democrat leadership - think!

The Dem leadership gave their usual knee-jerk reaction to Rove just
as he planned, making them look like whiners. When will they ever
learn to laugh and call him the clown prince of fantasy land when he
or Cheney or other nuts make such comments? Again, the Dem
leadership missed a great oportunity to answer affirmatively by
saying how the Republicans mounted their war horses and rode off in
all directions, attacking a country [Iraq] that had nothing to do
with 9/11. Furthermore they have sent troops into battle without
proper armament, no plans and no exit stragedy. Continue with the
number of dead, the missing billions, the staggering national debt,
the ... the list goes on and on. Dammit, guys. Take the gd
inititive!!!

focus

I've listened to every Rachel Maddow show and appreciate it as what I think Air America is all about.  It is natural for a show to grow and evolve, but I think some recent changes have weakened its focus.

First, I don't appreciate the intoduction on a second Kent Jones segment on New York news and sports; Sports news is available everywhere and I don't like wasting precious liberal radio listening time on sports.  More generally, are you a national show or a local show?  If you are national, New York news doesn't belong unless it is of national importance, or you are spotlighting various cities and it just happens to be New York's day.

Second, is the show for a general audience or a gay audience?  Yes, I know the anchor is a lesbian, so what?  I don't really mind the field trip to Seattle gay pride but I hope it doesn't mean I'm going to get less of the news I tune in for.  I also want the show to succeed, even from Rachel's kitchen if that's what it takes, so I want it to maintain its broad appeal.

527 bill - the CBC angle

The bill is co-sponsored by Albert Wynn, as you might have mentioned.

 And according to this

http://www.qando.net/details.aspx?Entry=1909

the Congressional Black Caucus are/may be backing the bill as a lever to get a bigger slice of the Dem funding pie.

The CBC's angle: the bill would give megabucks to the parties, and Dem honchos don't want to give that kind of power to Dean. Blackmail!

True or not, it's a great story.

Time for a new strategy...

Rachel, I think that you hit it on the head when discussing the “threat” of decreasing funding to PBS. That’s the magic of waving one hand while doing something else with the other. You can distract people from what is really going on and/or is important. However, when will our Democratic congressional leaders catch on? Let the Republicans say and do what they’re going to do. Call on Americans to respond… keep the public informed… but stop flinching, backing off, blanching, and just plain being weak on what and where we stand. The Republicans threaten to change house rules, then say go right ahead. Remind the public that the Republicans are breaking “national tradition,” which is something they state they prize. Then let them go ahead and attempt to change the rules. I honestly doubt the Republican congressional leaders would have been so stupid as to not think that the shoe might be on the other foot some day and gone ahead and changed the rules. I don’t need to reiterate the folly this strategy created in the sense that the Republicans were given a beautiful little tool to bully and blackmail Democrats into “keeping their word”. We need a change in social strategy in the party and FAST. The Republicans have placed themselves in the bully pulpit and successfully convinced a good portion of the public that what they say is the definition of true and good. We, as Liberals, need to go for the jugular pointing out the republican’s personal, political, and spiritual dishonesty and then providing indisputable proof that what we’ve said is true. The American public may be slow and unaware… but it isn’t stupid.

PBS and CPB

My paranoia suggest that Frank Rich copied off from Rachel.  But looking on the bright side, at least New York Times  has something to say about CPB:
