News:
A nationwide poll of 1,500 registered voters released yesterday by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center found that 57% of white evangelicals are inclined to vote for Republican congressional candidates in the midterm elections, a 21-point drop in support among this critical part of the GOP base; the same survey found that the percentage of evangelicals who think that Republicans govern "in a more honest and ethical way" than Democrats has plunged to 42%, down from 55% at the start of the year.

YOU have to remember the millions of voters you courted the last 2 elections -- "values votes". This is a shot to your base. One of your own is busted for being a predator and YOUR leadership covered it up to save a seat for their party.
It was just a matter of time before you're house of cards came tumbling down. Too bad it didn't happen before 2,737 American troops died in Iraq -- a country that never attacked us and hated terrorists as much as we did.
It's over for you guys.
Ironic, isn't it. You guys built your short-lived power on demonizing people you deem as immoral, and it was one of those types of people who brought you down. You're nothing but a bunch of hypocrites, and the American people now see it. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

True Christians Should Ask Who The GOP Really Represents. Could It Be ... Oh, I Don't Know ... Perhaps ... Satan???
Real Americans wish the headline was just hyperbole, but it's not: it's the truth.
A minor blog outed one of the victims of Mark Foley's sexual predations. This violation of an abused kid's privacy was immediately linked and given heavy Internet traffic by leading right-wing bloggers Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit and Roger L. Simon of Pajamas Media.
Pajamas is so disgraced by this act that they should immediately close their doors. Since they won't, its few remaining liberal members should quit immediately.
As for the right-wing, what can I say? This act is vile beyond description.
It's stunning, isn't it? There is literally no act of evil that the Right isn't willing to perpetrate to keep itself in power. There's more on the GOP as the Party of the Devil

Even a an evil, no good for nothing neocon as I don't vote a straight ticket! I look at the candidates. I will vote democrat for Governor here in NM. Richardson has done a good job and has been a good ambassador of our state. Heather Wilson is not in my district so I can't vote for her. I'm in Udall's district. Republicans didn't put much of a candidate against him.
Bottom line is, you being such a flaming liberal, I thought that maybe you would opt for a Green party candidate. Most dems are mainstream and really don't tow the far left line.
Too bad, I thought libs were "open minded" and studied all candidates and issues.

By fern55October 7, 2006 - 12:58pmI am not a flaming liberal
I am mainstream like most Dems. It is just that the Republican party is so far right to the point of Fascism that Goldwater is now considered a liberal. I voted straight Dem because no other party has a chance to defeat the fascists. No way will I ever vote for a Republican until the Bush fascists are purged from the party. And Heather Wilson is going down this time

Heather is going to lose. Patricia Madrid has a lot of baggage here in NM. As you know, she is the Attorney General. Under her watch, a few scandals broke out. The most recent was the Robert Vigil Extortion/bribery case. Vigil was a State Representative out of Las Vegas. This was happening under her nose for years and she did nothing about it. The FBI got involved later. She also is from a political family of a "suspect" reputation. I am surprised Gov. Richardson endorsed her. His endorsement raised her numbers to where she is running a dead heat with Wilson right now. Before then, Wilson had a five point lead. Wilson has won three times despite there being 39,000 more democrats than republicans in her district. I believe she wins because she is moderate and not very conservative. This is the only close race here in NM. The other races are a lock for the incumbants.

By LiberalIconoclastOctober 6, 2006 - 12:07pmDon't count the GOP out just yet
The roiling scandal that is riveting the nation will likely disappear by November, and with it many Evangelicals will return to the Party of God convinced that it was a mean spirited Democratic conspiracy and simply election year politics.
They will say that Mark Foley has resigned his office and was "Gay" anyway. He is now in rehab and no longer trolling online for teenage a**. Hastert must not resign anytime soon as this would be perceived as an admission of guilt and complicity. He will stay on as long as possible to help his party from backstabbing itself and becoming a Humpty-Dumpty story.
There are simply too many skeletons in too many closets on Capitol Hill that might want to come out and dance for the media or be exorcized by an embarassed "Moral Majority" for this to continue.
Everyone on Capitol Hill knows where this is going and understands the damage that a witch hunt brings so close to election time and must be halted.
The wound must be cauterized NOW. A few more folks may still have to be thrown under the bus but this controversy will soon disappear into committee.
The GOP is very strong, very connected and very well financed. Let's not forget that fact. They came to power by party discipline and unity in the ranks, sympathetic voting machines, and the generous contributions from stateless corporations who "need" tax breaks to compete with Asian slave labor. They will not relinquish power for a few peccadillos by a disgraced Congressman.
They will not let a few pimply teenage pages or a renegade "goody two shoes" Boy Scout bring down their government or destroy their power base.
If history is our guide, there will be a private investigation launched and conducted behind closed doors away from public scrutiny. The committee or "Study group" will conclude in 2007/8 that:
"Although there have been swirling allegations of wrong doing and an opening whispering campaign driven by the media, all the emails and IM's have been carefully reviewed and none show or suggest further evidence that any criminal behavior was contemplated or enacted by any member of the House or Senate.
Additionally new precautions have been instituted to protect the pages and prevent this from ever happening again." Case closed.
And what about the future for Mark Foley? Let's not count him out quite yet if former Nixon criminal Chuck Colson is also a guide to history. Perhaps Mark will have a "conversion" in rehab, come to Christ, and be born-again. Maybe one day he will ask and receive forgiveness from his accusers, see the light and become a new member of the Army of God for the GOP.The future will be interesting to see watch as it unfolds.

Rogue nations like Afganistan with the Taliban have the potential of doing serious damage to themselves as they thrive on being closed societies. However, an open society like America with Evangelists tirelessly trying to close it onto itself, not only threatens the country, but the entire world.
Evangelists who take their religious beliefs to the White House, could potentially have their finger on the nuclear button, triggering a nuclear Armageddon at any time.

Quote of the Day
"I'm not going to take a lecture on morality from
a party that took hush money from a child predator,"

Quotes
"We need to look at the idea of bringing 15- and 16-year-old children to Washington D.C.,
exposing them to adults power-crazy Fascists who they look up to and admire and these
people Republicans turn out to be flawed people with flawed personalities sexual criminals,"
-- Congressman Ray LaHood, blaming the children, Link

Why can't they be trusted with Fascist Republicans?

the end of the world if the dems take control. They have had control before and they will get it again. I don't agree with most of their agenda, but hey... most of their ideas will not get out of congress anyway. We will just have closer votes on issues and Pelosi will be the boss. There are a good number of dem congress people that vote with the republicans most of the time anyway. Also, I believe Bush will open up that veto pen a hell of a lot more!

By HobbitGoddessOctober 8, 2006 - 6:40pmHey Hobby, Here in Ohio, we have real corruption
Moss v. Bush has already entered the history books as the suit that set the legal framework for an unprecedented grassroots/internet campaign that brought the first Congressional challenge in US history to a state's Electoral delegation, a challenge that infuriated the Bush/Rove GOP.
But that wasn't enough for the stonewalling Bush-Rove Republicans. In true totalitarian style, the GOP has attacked as "frivolous" the attorneys who would dare assert that Ohio voters' rights be respected as citizens in a democracy.
What's anything but frivolous here is the Bush-Rove contempt for the Constitution of the United States. Since 1789 the essence of American democracy has been free and fair elections and due process of law. Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, the Roosevelts all believed those sacred principles to be at the heart of our nation.
George W. Bush has been inaugurated again amidst a vicious attack on that heart. If this election was free and fair, why won't the elected official (Sec of State Ken Blackwell)who ran it testify under oath? If there was no conspiracy to steal it, why have those in charge conspired to keep the public from seeing what really happened in this election?
The only reasonable conclusion that can be drawn from the actions of the Republican Party in Ohio is that it has something fearsome to hide. The only obvious reason for this attack on those who would look under the rocks is that the GOP never expected an internet-based, grassroots effort to force a Constitutional crisis over their divinely sanctioned control of the American electoral process.
So now the GOP has launched an anti-attorney counter-attack against the unexpected power of an historic grassroots movement that has worked to protect what's left of American democracy.
Revenge against that campaign's success is the obvious motive. So is the desire to prevent such challenges from happening again.
Above all, this attack on the core of American justice is the true measure of an administration that simply does not believe in an open electoral process. The Ohio GOP's censure is an official defense of secrecy and intimidation. Its true, profoundly un-American message is an utter contempt for democracy and the law.
And it is with this cancerous self-definition that George W. Bush has most clearly inaugurated his second illegitimate term.

By tomp46October 8, 2006 - 5:23pmanti-environmentalism?
Forty-five senators and 186 representatives in 2003 earned 80- to 100-percent approval ratings from the nation's three most influential Christian right advocacy groups -- the Christian Coalition, Eagle Forum, and Family Resource Council. Many of those same lawmakers also got flunking grades -- less than 10 percent, on average -- from the League of Conservation Voters last year.
These statistics are puzzling at first. Opposing abortion and stem-cell research is consistent with the religious right's belief that life begins at the moment of conception. Opposing gay marriage is consistent with its claim that homosexual activity is proscribed by the Bible. Both beliefs are a familiar staple of today's political discourse. But a scripture-based justification for anti-environmentalism?*
Many Christian fundamentalists feel that concern for the future of our planet is irrelevant, because it has no future. They believe we are living in the End Time, when the son of God will return, the righteous will enter heaven, and sinners will be condemned to eternal hellfire. They may also believe, along with millions of other Christian fundamentalists, that environmental destruction is not only to be disregarded but actually welcomed -- even hastened -- as a sign of the coming Apocalypse.

By othelloOctober 9, 2006 - 2:04pmlying is a sin
Years ago Ralph Reed told his Christian Coalition followers it was "OK to lie" when campaigning for local political offices (part of their "stealth campaign"). . . well, it clearly says in the Ten Commandments that "thou shalt not bear false witness", so if Reed tells them it's OK to break this commandment, what OTHER commandments can they break to win seats?
The ends do not justify the means.
