McCain lied to Bob Schiefer this morning
This morning on Face the Nation, McCain told Bob Schiefer in good confidence that he would be privileged with the first interview with Sarah Palin. Of course, by the end of the day that interview would be given to Charlie Gibson! John McCain talks out his ass and will say anything to win favor with people!

It is entirely possible that people that are actually running his campaign (and expect to run his administration) made the decision and didn't consult him.

By gt6September 7, 2008 - 7:25pmBabies, guns, and Jesus
From my blog, City Called Heaven (which includes pictures and additional content).
Rush Limbaugh and I agree on something. This election is about three things. We are simply focused on three different things.
Rush Limbaugh watched the Republican Convention and declared that this election is now focused on Sarah Palin and is an attempt to renew the culture wars, about "babies, guns, Jesus. Hot damn!" Sarah Palin: Babies, Guns, Jesus - August 28, 2008. Is this really the vision you have for America? (Click here for Limbaugh's vision for America.)
One of these things does not belong with the others...
I suggest that this election is about another three things.
1. Can Democrats fight? ¡Si se puede! Yes we can! I love my country. I have fought for my country and my values. Barack Obama and Joe Biden must hold this ground. Americans respect, trust, love, and will follow someone who will stand up for what they believe in. This election, and our country are worth fighting for - even if we must say some hard things. John McCain is a hero who abandoned his principles and good judgment to woo the Republican base. Sarah Palin is a self-described pitbull who is long on teeth but short on policy and empathy. By contrast, Barack Obama is about the American values of hard work, big dreams, and the guts to believe that we can overcome our differences.
2. What is worth fighting for? "Without a vision, the people perish" (Proverbs 29:18). There has been a fair amount of discussion about fact-based (and fantasy-based) voting. We believe that our positions are about the real world and about issues, not about the "horserace" and media-centric celebrity frenzies. We cannot make ourselves crazy about what people are perceiving. If we cannot win based on what we see and know as real, well, then, we're f***ed. Barack Obama is about thinking through issues, listening to people who are not lobbyists, economic policy which pays attention to workers and homeowners, healthcare which privileges people over insurance companies, and national security founded upon economic strength and war as a last option (not the first). We have to tell the truth as best we see it and trust in God and our fellow citizens to sort it out and do the right thing. Please note: this trusts the VALUES of American voters. If we can't trust that, well, the election is a crapshoot based on whatever you last heard from the TV-machine.
3. Turnout, turonout, turnout. This election - like every other - comes down to how many people get to the polls. If you're worried about the Bradley effect (where people say they're ok with a black guy and then vote white in private), or the Rove effect (where every good thing is spit upon and cast into doubt), or the Diebold effect (where those in power will lie cheat and steal to stay there), then GET YOUR ASS AND ALL YOUR FRIENDS' ASSES REGISTERED AND TO THE POLLS!
That, my brothers and sisters, spells victory. The people, united, can never be defeated. And that is a non-partisan statement. Just make sure YOU are one of the people who makes a difference.

By kitovSeptember 7, 2008 - 11:28pmcan democrats fight?
obama has the truth and a legitimate platform on his side. we are passionate about something positive. the republicans hitch their cart to religious fervor. they take advantage of common fears and mass hysteria. having nothing but bullshit they fight to the death to defend their lies. our truth stands on its own merit, so we don't feel we need to be fanatical about it. well, we need to remember, like you said that we must fight for what we believe or watch it be lost.

By commiecakesSeptember 8, 2008 - 1:59amPALIN, MCCAIN, BIG OIL, IRAQ, NO REAL CHANGE FOR U.S.
DISABLED SO EXCUSE WRITING.
OBAMA IF PRESIDENT WOULD TRY AND PULL TROOPS OUT IN 16 MOUNTS WHILE CONSIDERING THE GENERALS' ON THE GROUNDS ADVICE TO PROTECT U.S. TROOPS IF NEEDED! HE SAID HE WOULD CONSIDER REMOVING TROOPS RESPONSIBLELY. MCCAIN HAS DISTORTED ISSUES AS HE DID WITH THE STUPID TIME HORIZON AND PASSING OUT OBAMA'S TIRE GAUGES. SAME OLD POLITICS TO DO WHAT EVER IS NEEDED TO BE DONE EVEN IF ITS A LAME ATTEMPT TO BE AGENTS OF CHANGE WHICH I GUESS IT MEANS AGENTS OF BIG OIL AND GAS. I BASE THIS ON INFORMATION LISTED FURTHER DOWN ON THIS EMAIL. MCCAIN AND PALIN'S POLITICAL GAME IS LIKE A AEROSMITH'S SONG WHICH SAYS, "THE SAME OLD SONG AND DANCE MY FRIENDS."
IS IT REALLY A SURPRISE THAT MCCAIN WOULD WANT TO STAY IN IRAQ LONGER THEN BUSH'S TIME LINE OF 2011? MCCAIN SET A TIME LINE OF 2013, BUT THAT IS ONLY IF THE GENERALS SAY ITS SAFE. MCCAIN WILL STAY IN IRAQ UNTIL THE WAR IS WON WHICH IS TOUGH WITH ALL THE VARIOUS TRIBAL AND RELIGOUS GROUP THROUGH OUT IRAQ. BEFORE OR AFTER THE SURGE THERE WAS THE SONS OF IRAQ SAME AS TRIBAL AWAKENING AND AWAKENING COUNCIL CREATED FROM LOCAL TRIBAL GROUPS. I BELIEVE THERE WERE 100,000 TRIBAL PERSONEL. THERE IS SOME ISSUE ON SURGE DOWN FURTHER IN THIS EMAIL.
DID MCCAIN GO AFTER HILLARY'S VOTERS BY CHOOSING PALIN EVEN IF SHE DIDN'T HAVE THE NEEDED SKILLS TO BE PRESIDENT? BEING A MAYOR DOES NOT BRING POTENTIAL PRESIDENTAL TRAINING INTO HER RESUME. HOW MANY MAYORS COULD BECOME PRESIDENT; HANDLE A DEPRESSED ECONOMY; SUPPORT TWO WARS AND TENSION BUILDING UP BETWEEN RUSSIA AND THE WEST? DID ANYONE NOTICE MCCAINS 360 ON THE ISSUE OF FANNIE AND FREDDIE MAC. FIRST HE DIDN'T WANT TO BAIL OUT FANNIE AND FREDDIE MAC., BUT NOW HE WANTS TO USE TAX PAYERS MONEY TO BAIL THEM OUT. THAT'S NOT CHANGE, BUT THAT IS A POLITICAN WANTING TO WIN NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES.
PALIN IS A PENTACOSTAL BELIEVEING SHE SPEAKS TO GOD AND THE U.S. IS DOING GOD'S WORK IN WARS. MY MOM'S BOY FRIEND WAS IN THE NAVY FOR 20 YEARS AND A MAYOR, BUT HE SAYS THAT WOULD NOT GIVE HIM ENOUGH EXPERIENCE TO RUN FOR THE PRESIDENCY! BEING A GOVERNOR WOULD BRING IN SOME GOOD SKILLS. I DID PAYROLL; PAID PAYROLL TAXES; OVER SAW A/R & A/P AND PAID CORP. WORK COMP. INSURACE. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ME READY TO BE PRESIDENT.
I WATCHED A DEBATE ON CNN TODAY ABOUT BUSH'S REASONING TO GO TO WAR IN IRAQ VS CONCENTRATING ON AFGANISTAN AL QUEADA. THEY WERE SAYING IT WAS TO ATTACK AL QUEADA. DID I MISS SOMETHING? I WAS TOLD BY THE MEDIA THAT BUSH WENT TO WAR WITH IRAQ BECAUSE OF ALLEGED WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. I GUESS ON BOTH ISSUES IT SHOWS THAT REPUBLICANS WILL SAY WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO WIN THE PRESIDENCY.
IF GEORGIA FIRED ON S. OSSETIA'S TROOPS FIRST AS THEY SAID ON STUDIO B, WOULDN'T MCCAINS TOUGH REMARKS BEEN OUT OF LINE? I BELIEVE RUSSIA WAS WANTING A REASON TO BREAK UP GEORGIA AND ATTACK GAVE RUSSIA A GREEN LIGHT TO DO JUST THAT.
HAS ANY ONE READ AL JAZEERA.NET STORY ABOUT PALIN HAVING CONTACTS WITH BIG OIL MAYBE EVEN MORE THEN MCCAIN? CHECK IT OUT!

IraqMcCain emphasizes the 'success' of the surge pointing to a decrease in violence as evidence of the surge's success. However, he fails to acknowledge the agreement made between Maqtada al-Sadr and the Iraqi government. Al-Sadr is the most powerful cleric in Baghdad. But for the agreement between al-Sadr and the Iraqi government, there would still be major violence. In fact, after the surge had been harolded a victory, there was a spike in violence as the Sadr-Iraqi agreement dissolved. Sadr's Mahqti army restarted their attacks. It was only after al-Sadr and the Iraqi government restarted negotiations that the violence was once more subsided. McCain only understands military force. His narrow mindedness is reflective of Bush's approach to resolving issues. Even a religious cleric like al-Sadr is capable of understanding the usefulness of negotiations. It's sad McCain-iacs are too psychophatically violent to think rationally. McCain is very misleading.U.S. SecurityHow is Iraq a threat to U.S. security again? Oh, al-Qaeda will take over the Iraqi government if the U.S. leaves? For real? Did Patreus say that? Whatever govenment exists after the U.S. leaves will most likely despise America. I doubt it will be al-Qaeda. The most likely ruler of Iraq will be someone like al-Sadr--If you don't know who al-Sadr is, please do some research. Even if it isn't al-Sadr, the next government will be anti-American. I imagine the citizens of a country that was unjustly invaded by another country, consequently causing the death of over one hundred thousand of its citizens due to the disstabilization of the government, will abhor the invading country. That's a natural reaction. And if the Iraqi government in place after the U.S. leaves reflects the desires of Iraqis, the Iraqi government will hate America. It won't be al-Qaeda. I wish McCain would stop saying that.

Palin says the US should drill its way out of dependence on foreign oil [GALLO/GETTY]
Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska who has shot to prominence as John McCain's choice as running-mate, is best known as a passionate believer in new oil and gas exploration, including in Alaska's National Widelife Reserve - something McCain himself rejects.
But campaigners say she has a mixed record on her dealings with the oil corporations to which the Republican party has so many historic ties.
"There is no question that Palin's appointment as the Republican vice-presidential candidate cements the fact that John McCain is the candidate of big oil," Dan Weiss, a senior fellow at the Centre for American Progress, a Washington-based think-tank, told Al Jazeera.
"She supports the agenda of big oil - of more drilling - and she opposes investments in clean and renewable energy," he said.
Palin has presented herself as a challenger to corporate interests in Alaska, although that is because she believes the major energy companies have not acted swiftly enough in carrying out drilling and pipeline projects in the state.
Ending dependence

ties to big oil firms [EPA]
The Alaskan governor also sees more drilling of US oil reserves as a way of ending US dependence on oil imports from the Middle East and elsewhere.
"I beg to disagree with any candidate who would say we can't drill our way out of our problem," she told Investor's Business Daily magazine earlier this year.
In 2006, she acted to renegotiate a deal with Exxon, BP and Conoco Phillips to build a pipeline carrying natural gas from Alaska's North Slope region across Canada to the US.
Palin also pushed for legislation to provide $500m in state funds to the companies to act on the project and eventually agreed to give the contract to TransCanada, a Canadian firm.
She also introduced a new tax on oil companies operating in Alaska and went as far as saying she supported Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate, when he proposed a windfall tax as part of his energy policy earlier this year.
However, her husband, Todd Palin used to work for the British Petroleum oil corporation in Alaska's North Slope region and she has collected almost $13,000 from lobbyists connected to the oil industry, reports say.
And Matt Gonzalez, environmentalist Ralph Nader's running-mate for his presidential campaign in 2008, says Palin has characterised the windfall tax in different ways depending on the audience and that she has not taken on oil corporations in the way she has claimed.
"We know that the oil companies have been making profits that have never been seen before, and the taxes that Palin has introduced are trivial in comparison," he told Al Jazeera.
Environmental concerns
Palin has opposed rulings on designating
polar bears as endangered [EPA]
Environmentalists have expressed concern about Palin's views on the causes of climate change.
"A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one, though, who would attribute it to being man-made," she said in an interview in August this year.
Palin, a keen hunter, has also threatened to sue the US government over its ruling on having the polar bear designated as an endangered species and opposed protection for salmon threatened by pollution from the mining industry.
The Palin connection has worried campaigners already concerned about McCain's ties to large oil firms that have led to him being dubbed "Exxon John" by Democrats.
McCain has received more than $1.5m from oil and gas interests for his presidential campaign, nearly four times more than the amount Obama has taken, according to figures up to July from the Centre for Responsive Politics.
Lobbying power
At this year's Republican National Convention, the power of the oil lobbying firms was on display.
In focus
In-depth coverage of the US election
Haly Barbour, the governor of the state of Mississippi, hosted a lavish party for executives from the American Petroleum Institute to meet Republicans on Tuesday, an event targeted by protesters and activists.
Randa Fahmyhudome, a former Bush administration energy official, said Palin was right to call for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
"In America, we are world's number one consumer of petroleum in the world and no-one knows better than Alaskans themselves what is good for environment. We ought to look to Alaskans and Governor Palin on this issue," she said.
"New technology will help us protect the environment while we develop these resources," she added.
