Education Right or Privilege
In the US education is an absolute privilege that is preface for a privilege or disadvanted life to follow. From early child education through graduate degree program opportunities the numbers show who is receiving the privileges of education.
I have taught in the public school system K-8 sytem for over 10 years and now an independent school system, and the differences are mindblowing. You would of thought I went to a different planet , not just across town.

I suggest "Magnum" for the cat's name -- to go with Higgins from the same show.

Given the penchance for dashing across the room landing on your leg, "Velcro" comes to mind. If not, I like "Piper."

I would sugest G W Bush, because he wants to attack things, but then again he has never actually done the dirty work of attacking, and NO one wants G W Bush in your home... even if it is only a cat!
Good to hear the kiten will have a good home!

1. My name suggestion: if female--Liza; if male--Doolittle -- to go with Higgins, of course!
2. An idiot (sorry Thom, I know you hate this kind of criticism, but he's an IDIOT!!) caller a few calls back first confessed his ignorance and poor judgment in voting for bush TWICE, and immediately reverted into neoconist non-thought by canonizing McCain because of his past, and then criticizing Senator Obama PLUS calling him "YOUR BOY OBAMA." WOW!! I'm almost speechless! a) he's ignorant, b) he's obviously not capable of learning from his mistakes, and c) he's an IDIOT!!

By bernice14July 21, 2008 - 1:02pmAnother cat name
Hard to beat Liza and Doolittle, but how about Zorro for a guy cat, and Shady (as in Shady Lady) for a girl.
Be very cautious about cat bites. My recent surgery was post-poned with many anti-biotics, because my own cat bit my hand as I was trying to get her to the kennel prior to surgery. She had received all her shots and complete check-up the week before.

Oh, I love to name animals. Since you are giving away a copy of your book for the name-how about Booker? I have a dear friend with that name and animals love him-especially finicky cats. Another name--Avery--because it works for male or female. Pick me, pick me, I really want a copy of your book Thom.
Or use my name--Bebe

I strongly believe that education should be a right in a modern society. It is put in place to give all citizens and youth a solid ground and equal footing. I do like the idea of public schools because it gives ALL of us citizens a stake in the future of our county and also of ourselves as individuals. We have to be responsible for its conception and regulation. We have to be involved ( a toxic word these days).
I hopefully will still be alive many, many years from now and I want to know that the people who are not in charge have had the same chances at education as those who are and that I can reasonably assume that even the meanest of jobs has educated people working them so that they can better protect thier rights AND mine.
I believe that education is a great equalizer and helps prevent seperate classes from forming by providing mobility. Knowledge is power and I am not afraid to empower others.

By RSteenJuly 22, 2008 - 1:22pmIs Carrie Lukas on the level?
Really?!?!
After I saw a bit of Hannity & Colmes, I got the idea that there should be a liberal/progressive show that has a really sharp host with a conservative stooge to make the show look balanced, but really serve as a punching bag so the good guys can always win. Have you ever heard of Alan Colmes sending Sean down for the count?
It seems that you independently came up with my idea. This Carrie Lukas is an idiot. She can't argue well so she always changes the subject. She tries the Ayn Rand "don't-take-my-money" ploy, admits a high-school diploma can't get you very far, talks about how people waste their college years and how her own graduate degree was a waste (coincidentally, so was mine). This yammering bloviator can't argue her way out of a wet paper bag. I'd expect more intellectual heft on your show, Thom. Send Carrie to Fox News Sunday, she'd fit right in there.
